Warm winter temperatures saved Bloomington from the projected 5-inch buildup, but the city still received between 3 and 4 inches of snow accumulation as part of central Indiana's winter storm this week.

With snow showers beginning in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the city already had around 1 to 2 inches of snow on the ground by 8 a.m., as reported to the National Weather Service's Indianapolis office.

Though the city could not pre-treat roads due to Tuesday's late rainfall, public works director Adam Wason said the street division team, which includes around 40 employees and 30 plow trucks, began work around 1 a.m. Wednesday to ensure most of the main roadways and high-volume areas were cleared. Multiple county employees had also been out throughout the day, plowing snow off roads. Late Wednesday morning, around 1,300 households in the county reported power outages, with most being restored by early afternoon.

While heavy snowfall is over for this storm, meteorologist Andrew White said Bloomington may see lingering snow showers through Friday.

"But overall, the worst is done," White said.

There's a chance of light rain on Saturday, potentially totaling around a few tenths of an inch at most. Despite a soft rain shower, Saturday temperatures will see highs in the 40s.

"We're expecting one of the nicer days we've had in the last little bit this weekend," White said.

Early next week will return to mild conditions with highs in the mid-30s and lows in the mid- to upper 20s.
