It was a deadly weekend on Lake Monroe, where two swimmers died after jumping into the water and not resurfacing.

Investigators said neither was using a flotation device or life jacket.

Sunday afternoon, Indiana Conservation Officers and Monroe County Dive Team members pulled 66-year-old Paul Bosler of Bloomington from the water in the Moore's Creek area of the lake.

Witnesses stated that Bosler jumped off a boat to swim at 2:20 p.m. and never resurfaced after going under the water. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, he died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

On Saturday afternoon, Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body of a New York man from the lake. Witnesses said 40-year-old Rajesh Kumar of Ozone Park, New York, had jumped off a boat to swim near Paynetown State Recreation Area.

Divers started serching at 3:50 p.m. and located Kumar's body a short time later. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but Kumar was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed neither man was using a life jacket or other flotation device when they entered the water.

In April, two Indiana University students drowned in Lake Monroe after jumping off a pontoon boat near the Paynetown Beach into frigid water and not resurfacing.

They went missing on a Saturday, but churning water and high winds delayed the recovery of their bodies for three days. Nineteen-year-old Siddhant Shah and 20-year-old Aryan Vaidya died in that incident. Neither was using a flotation device.
