Blount County teen dies after being struck by truck while waiting for school bus
A Blount County teenager was killed Thursday morning when she was struck by a truck while waiting for a school bus, according to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The 15-year-old, who was not identified, was hit about 7:15 a.m. by a 2004 Nissan Frontier driven by Tyler Gillilan, 31, of Oneonta, near the 245-mile marker on U.S. Highway 231, close to the Blount/St. Clair County line about 4 miles north of Ashville. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Published reports say the Frontier crashed into her house after striking her.
A statement from the Blount County school system said the victim was a student at Appalachian School; published reports say she was part of a community of migrant workers from Florida.
ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the incident.
