Blue Jay Roundup: Tennis gets a 'great' start to the fall season

Aug. 19—JAMESTOWN — All the conditioning that Jamestown High School head tennis coach John Ness put the 2022 Blue Jay tennis team through started paying off at about 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The Blue Jays secured their first win of the season, squeaking out a 3-2 win over Bismarck Century at the Minot 3-2 Multi-Duals.

Ness' crew fell 5-0 to WDA defending champs, Minot, in the second round of the non-conference tournament. They finished out the day with 3-2 to Bismarck Legacy.

Jamestown will have to find a way to keep the 1-2 momentum rolling as they have got another full day on Saturday as they compete in the Minot Round Robin.

The scheduled start time for the round robin tourney is 9 a.m.

Camron Andersen was the first Blue Jay to earn a win, defeating Century's No. 3 Bridger Sorenson 7-5, 6-3.

Max Fronk and Luke LeFevre partnered to take down Century's No. 1 doubles squad 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 to tie things up at two apiece.

Kai Backen and Adam Sortland secured the win with a 6-2, 6-1 performance at No. 2 doubles.

Ness said getting a win and hanging with some of the West's best teams was a great way to start the season but that the Blue Jays have more to accomplish on Saturday.
