Blue Jays fans reeling after getting swept by Angels
It was only a few days ago that things were looking extremely promising for the Toronto Blue Jays in their quest for a return to the playoffs.
The Blue Jays were riding high on Thursday after completing a sweep of the Boston Red Sox to cap an impressive 6-1 road trip that also saw them take three of four games against the New York Yankees. With a soft schedule looming, the Blue Jays appeared poised to put some distance between themselves and the other wild-card hopefuls chasing them.
Instead, they returned home and got swept by the Los Angeles Angels, a team playing out the string on another disappointing season and one that had lost six in a row entering the series at Rogers Centre. All told, the Blue Jays were outscored 22-3 across the three games as some of their American League rivals made up ground in the standings.
Toronto lost Friday's game in blowout fashion as Los Angeles cruised to a 12-0 victory. The Blue Jays honoured the 1992 World Series-winning team before Saturday's contest then proceeded to get completely shut down by two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani en route to a 2-0 defeat. But Sunday's sloppy, mistake-filled 8-3 loss was what truly sent a number of fans off the deep end in what has been a roller coaster 2022 campaign.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Co. will have a chance to rebound right away as they host the Chicago Cubs — another team well below .500 — for a three-game set beginning Monday. The Blue Jays then hit the road for series against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, the upstart Baltimore Orioles and the middling Texas Rangers. This stretch could very well define Toronto's season.
