Blue Jays Roundup: Swimming just shy of Bruins

Jan. 22—It was a tight fight in the Jamestown High School pool Friday night.

Jamestown wound up dropping 86-84 to Fargo South in a non-conference dual, putting their record at 1-1 for the week.

The Jays will be back at their home pool on Jan. 28 hosting Fargo Davies.

Jamestown only won five of the 12 events, with its first win coming in the 200 freestyle race. Teddy Solensky won the 200 free touching the wall at 1 minute, 58.93 seconds. Caleb Fabian and Nicholas Olson also placed in the top-five in the 200 free.

Brayden Schmeichel and Alex Goodrie went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall within .90 seconds of each other. Schmeichel and Goodrie were the only two Jays to place in the four-lap race.

Jamestown picked up first-place finishers in the 200 freestyle relay, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

A couple of pins and four straight forfeits made for some light work for the Jamestown High School wrestling team Friday evening.

The Jays picked up their second win of the week defeating Watford City 49-28. Jamestown picked up a 38-34 win over Bismarck St. Mary's on Thursday.

Wrestling will be back in action on Tuesday hosting Bismarck Century beginning at 7 p.m.

AJ Matzke got the Jays on the board first with an 8-6 decision over Wyatt Boekelman which was followed by a pin from Lucas Schlepuetz to put the Jays ahead 8-0.

Aden Braun was the only other Blue Jay to pick up a win by fall Friday, tripping up Zane Wagoner with 1:22 gone in the match.

Beau Matson, Conner Quintero and Nivon Hayes picked up three late pins for the Wolves in the 190, 215 and 285 brackets but 18 straight points were not enough to gain the advantage.
