Blue Jays Roundup: Three compete at State tennis, season ends officially

Oct. 9—MINOT — Things just never really came together for the Jamestown High School tennis team this fall but three members of the squad did get to play on the second-to-last day of the 2022 season.

Mason Lunzman, Luke LeFevre and Kai Backen all competed in the individual portion of the Class A tournament.

"Our guys are resilient and I'm proud of how they dealt with adversity throughout the year," JHS head coach John Ness said. "I am really impressed by how our guys finished the season. We had a rough start certainly, but we will be better for it in the long run."

Lunzman competed in the singles bracket while LeFevre and Backen patterned to take on the doubles team. Lunzman and the doubles pair each ended up going 0-2 on the first day of individual competition which brought an end to their seasons.

"Mason Kai and Luke all had a tough ending to their season, but spirits remain high for next year," Ness said. "Mason Lunzman was a great captain for me, and we will miss him next year no doubt. It's been a pleasure to coach him and all my seniors who finished their tennis careers."
