Blue Jays top prospect Nate Pearson suffers another groin injury
The bad run of injury luck for Toronto Blue Jays prospect Nate Pearson continues.
The hard-throwing right-hander was placed on the injured list on Tuesday as he deals with a groin strain, an issue that also hampered him during spring training. A timeline for his recovery was not immediately provided by the team.
In addition to the groin injury, Pearson dealt with a shoulder impingement earlier this season and was sidelined for a prolonged stretch last year due to elbow tightness.
Pearson is ranked as Toronto's No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline, which also views him as the game's No. 9 prospect overall. He appeared in five regular-season games for the Blue Jays last season but struggled to the tune of a 6.00 ERA.
The 24-year-old has only made one MLB start in 2021, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks to the Houston Astros on May 9. He's been pitching for triple-A Buffalo ever since as he seeks to get back on track.
Pearson has been refining his mechanics this season in an effort to become "less violent" with his delivery. The results haven't quite been there and he owns a 4.74 ERA across six games with the Bisons. He last pitched on June 16, tossing six innings of two-run ball.
