Blue Quail Appreciation Day set for Friday, October 13

Sep. 20—A "Blue Quail Appreciation Day" is scheduled to be held at the Quail Ranch in Crane County on Friday, October 13, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Quail Ranch is located 7 miles East of Crane on HWY 329.

Dr. Dale Rollins, Director of Outreach at the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, said the field day will focus on "Blue" or Scaled Quail and cover everything from anatomy and biology to habitat management practices that benefit the species.

Speakers will include Dr. Dale Rollins, Dr. Ryan Luna with Border Lands Research Institute, Jesse Wood and Jason Brooks with ConocoPhillips, Hilary Schneider with TPWD, Jameson Crumpler with Texas Native Seeds Program and other specialists. Topics will include: blue quail biology, research updates, and habitat management practices to benefit Blue Quail and other wildlife.

A lunch will be provided at the ranch and followed by a tour of the Quail Ranch to look at quail management practices. The Quail Ranch has used multiple tools to create excellent wildlife habitat that benefits a diversity of species; it's truly a unique property.

The Blue Quail Appreciation Day will begin with registration on Friday, Oct. 13, at 8:30 a.m., the program will begin at 9:00 a.m., lunch will be catered at the ranch at noon and the ranch tour will start at 1:00 p.m.
