Blue Star Mothers of Coshocton launches banner program

COSHOCTON − The Blue Star Mothers of Coshocton are honoring veterans and those serving via a program similar to what's been done in other communities.

Banners have been hung from posts on the Three Rivers Memorial Bridge recently in conjunction with the City of Coshocton. The banners are vinyl and 24-inches by 37-inches. They feature a picture of the soldier with their name on the top and service branch on the bottom.

Those eligible are current or former county residents before, during or after active duty. Honorable discharge papers, DD-214 form, valid veteran identification or armed forces specification on a driver's license must be provided along with a digital picture of the veteran.

Nine banners are up and other applications are being processed. Current banners will stay up through Independence Day and probably go up again near Veterans Day. Banners will also be hung from lampposts throughout Downtown Coshocton, and displayed in Conesville, West Lafayette and Warsaw as well.

Banner are $45 and have an estimated life span of three years. Turnaround time is about two weeks. Yard signs are also available for $28 for a single picture and $32 for a double-sided picture.

Applications are available at the Coshocton County Veterans Office, Coshocton Moose Lodge, Coshocton Eagles Lodge, Coshocton American Legion, Coshocton AmVets, Coshocton Army Navy Garrison and the Blue Stars Mothers Ohio Chapter 59 Facebook page.

The chapter is also holding its third annual car and bike show July 1 on the Coshocton Court Square. Registration is 1 to 3 p.m. with awards at 6 p.m. Registration is $10. The event will include vendors, raffles, food trucks and the Vietnam Traveling Veterans Memorial Wall.
