Blue Water Area teams, individuals who qualified for the wrestling state finals

We're approaching the end of the 2022-23 MHSAA wrestling season. But there's still so much to compete for.

The MHSAA team and individual regional tournaments were held on Feb. 15 and Feb. 18, respectively. Here are the representatives from the Blue Water Area who advanced to the state finals.

TEAMS

Division 3

Algonac: The Muskrats are the only area team that advanced to the state finals. They clinched their first-ever regional championship with a 34-31 win over Richmond in the Region 121 final on Feb. 15. The team finals will be held at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo from Feb. 24-25.

INDIVIDUALS

Division 2, Region 5

Joey Scaramuzzino, Croswell-Lexington: Scaramuzzino won the regional championship at 215 pounds. He beat Riley Hush of Gaylord by a 4-2 decision in the first-place match. All individual finals will be held at Ford Field in Detroit from March 3-4.

Cristian Haslem, St. Clair: Haslem captured the regional championship at 106 pounds. He defeated Izaak Kukulski of Bay City John Glenn by an 8-7 decision in the first-place match.

Braylon Davis, Croswell-Lexington: Davis qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 113 pounds.

Jaxon Gonzalez, Croswell-Lexington: Gonzalez qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 157 pounds.

Division 3, Region 11

Reid Hiltunen, Algonac: Hiltunen won the regional championship at 190 pounds. He beat James Bigelow of Lutheran Westland on a fall at 2:38 in the first-place match.

Eddie Olson, Richmond: Olson captured the regional championship at 215 pounds. He defeated Latham Perry of Imlay City by a 5-3 decision in the first-place match.

Matthew Misch, Richmond: Misch won the the regional championship at 285 pounds. He beat Derik Maciag of Algonac via injury in the first-place match.

Anthony D'Ambrosio, Imlay City: D'Ambrosio captured the regional championship at 150 pounds. He defeated Jeremy Griffith of Yale by a 2-1 decision in the first-place match.

Josh Kasner, Algonac: Kasner won the regional championship at 175 pounds. He beat Noah Etnyre of Lutheran Westland by a 5-3 decision in the first-place match.

Brady St. John, Richmond: St. John qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 190 pounds.

Tristan Lietz, Armada: Lietz qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 190 pounds.

Latham Perry, Imlay City: Perry qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 215 pounds.

Derik Maciag, Algonac: Maciag qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 285 pounds.

Andrew Ferrara, Algonac: Ferrera qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 285 points.

Landon Sopha, Yale: Sopha qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 106 pounds.

Grady Francek, Yale: Francek qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 106 pounds.

Chris Campbell, Algonac: Campbell qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 113 pounds.

Tanner Land, Imlay City: Land qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 113 pounds.

Noah Harris, Richmond: Harris qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 120 pounds.

Lucky Gartin, Algonac: Gartin qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 120 pounds.

Christopher Galiana, Imlay City: Galiana qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 120 pounds.

Steven Shannon, Algonac: Algonac qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 126 pounds.

Dominic D'Ambrosio, Imlay City: D'Ambrosio qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 132 pounds.

Alex Bright, Algonac: Bright qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 132 pounds.

David Clemons, Algonac: Clemons qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 138 pounds.

Kyle Reppert, Armada: Reppert qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 144 pounds.

Jeremy Griffith, Yale: Griffith qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 150 pounds.

Cole McLaughlin, Yale: McLaughlin qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 157 pounds.

Wyatt Peters, Richmond: Peters qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 157 pounds.

Mark Romanowski, Algonac: Romanowski qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 165 pounds.

Zac Dykes, Armada: Dykes qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 175 pounds.

Paul Stanczak, Armada: Stanczask qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 175 pounds.

Division 4, Region 14

Turlough Bennett, Marlette: Bennett captured the regional championship at 132 pounds. He defeated Chase Nickerson of Vassar by a 6-0 decision in the first-place match.

Manus Bennett, Marlette: Bennett won the regional championship at 150 pounds. He beat Alex Gleason of Hesperia by a fall at 3:58 in the first-place match.

Kyle Affer, Brown City: Affer qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 190 pounds.

Kory Lambson, Sandusky: Lambson qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 215 pounds.

Wynn Blake, Brown City: Blake qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 120 pounds.

Easton Jager, Brown City: Jager qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 138 pounds.

Hunter Ostrander, Brown City: Ostrander qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 157 pounds.

David Eagle, Brown City: Eagle qualified for the state finals with a second-place finish at 165 pounds.

Division 4, Region 15

Tyler McKenney, Capac: McKenney qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 106 poiunds.

Troy Trombley, Memphis: Trombley qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 126 pounds.

Regional Blue 2 (Girls)

Maria Stanton, Brown City: Stanton won the regional championship at 100 pounds on Feb. 19.

Sky Langewicz, Algonac: Langewicz won the regional championship at 110 pounds on Feb. 19.

Ember Marriott, Yale: Marriott qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 190 pounds.

Cierra Helzer, Capac: Helzer qualified for the state finals with a third-place finish at 105 pounds.

Ava Klink, Capac: Klink qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish at 155 pounds.
