ST. CLAIR — The Blue Water Connections Special Olympics basketball teams will be storming the court for a new fundraiser.

Saints Shootout is an upcoming fundraiser basketball game between Blue Water Connections Special Olympics and St. Clair High School. At least three games will be played between the participating teams. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to benefit Blue Water Connections Special Olympics.

Blue Water Connections Special Olympics Program Coach Megan Klemmer said the game will be a feel-good community event.

"The team is very excited to show off what they can do," she said.

All of the athletes in Blue Water Connections Special Olympics participate in their sports at zero cost. The fundraiser will help the organization continue to support its teams.

Saints Shootout is taking place at 6 p.m. on March 12 at St. Clair High School, located at 2200 Clinton Ave. in St. Clair. Admission is by donation at the door.

In addition to the basketball games, concessions will be open and T-shirts commemorating the event will be available for purchase.

St. Clair High School Principal David Mroue said he thinks it will be an amazing event for the community.

"We are so excited to partner with Blue Water Connections to do this," he said. "It's a great experience for our students."

Klemmer said since announcing the event on Friday, people have offered to sponsor the cost of the T-shirts for the event. She said if the cost of the shirts gets covered, then the event will only make profit.

Volunteers are also welcome at this event. People interested in volunteering or becoming a sponsor can contact bluewaterconnectionsomi@gmail.com.

Klemmer said Saints Shootout will lead up to Blue Water Connections Special Olympics attending the State Basketball Tournament on March 15 in Grand Rapids.

"It gives our team a little bit more practice within an environment with a lot of people and noise," she said.

There are at least 80 athletes participating in a variety of sports with Blue Water Connections Special Olympics. People interested in becoming an athlete with the organization can send inquiries to bluewaterconnectionsomi@gmail.com.

Blue Water Connections Special Olympics is an organization for people with cognitive disabilities ages 8 and up within St. Clair County.
