Bluefield State University basketball teams to participate in 2024 CIAA Tournament
BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — The Men’s and Women’s basketball teams at Bluefield State University are getting ready for their return to the CIAA Tournament.

From February 26, 2024 to March 3, 2024, the 2024 Food Lion CIAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournament will be held in Baltimore, Maryland at the CFG Bank Arena. The University’s appearance at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament will be the first since they rejoined the conference.
Before they joined the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), from 1932 to 1955 Bluefield State University (BSU), previously known as Bluefield State College, was once a CIAA member. On July 1, 2023, BSU returned to the CIAA after competing as an independent NCAA DII member.

While Bluefield State was a member of the CIAA when the first men’s basketball tournament was held in 1946, the only teams able to participate were the top eight. The location of the tournament changed cities throughout the years, with locations like Greensboro and Baltimore. The tournament returned to Baltimore in 2019 after a deal was made that will keep it there until 2026, after previously being held in Charlotte for 15 years.
Returning to the CIAA tournament is a significant event for Bluefield State University, and the men’s and women’s basketball teams are excited to compete against the other CIAA teams, as well as show off their skills. BSU hopes to make a strong impression and leave a lasting mark during their first CIAA appearance.
