Blues guitarist to join Vinyl Club at Rodman Library

Alliance Vinyl Club will welcome a special guest this week at Rodman Public Library.

Musician J.J. Vicars will be on hand for the 6:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday at the main library.

The guitarist and singer is well known among blues fans around the Carnation City, building a following while playing around the area for the past decade and winning the 2017 Northeast Ohio Blues Challenge.

Vicars, who has several albums to his credit, will spin some of his favorite tunes and talk about his career as a musician in his visit with the Alliance Vinyl Club, which is open to all music lovers and meets every first Wednesday of the month in the auditorium at Rodman Library. No registration is needed to attend the program.

Those attending Alliance Vinyl Club meetings are encouraged to bring along an album to share a song with others. The group, which has no formal membership, offers the opportunity to hang out, have good conversation, and make new friends.

MarioKart tournament for teens set at main library

Rodman Public Library has invited teens to take part in the RPL MarioKart Tournament at 3 p.m. April 13.

Open to ages 12-18, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. The tournament will feature a 1v1 format. All courses, vehicles and characters will be featured in the event. Players will alternate selecting courses, and matches will be the best two out of three in the double-elimination tournament.

RPL Branch plans ‘Who Are The People In Your Neighborhood’ storytime

Rodman Branch Library will help youngsters get to know the people in their neighborhood during special storytime sessions at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday from April 11 to May 30.

Each week’s event will have a special activity and guest speaker. Scheduled guest speakers include:

April 11 – Veterinarian Dr. Patricia Tucker. Attendees can bring a stuffed animal for a checkup.

April 18 – Artist/entrepreneur Troy Myers from Hot Pots.

April 25 – Alliance Police Capt. Akenra X.

May 2 – Librarian Charlene Duro.

May 9 – Farmer Eugene Miller.

May 16 – A Counselor from CommQuest in honor of Mental Health Month.

May 23 – Washington Township Fire Chief Craig Cobb.

May 30 – Alliance Mayor Alan Andreani.

Get gardening with OSU Extension

An official with Stark County’s Ohio State University Extension will give gardening tips during a visit to Rodman Public Library.

Jennifer White, an urban programs educator in the College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, will offer tips to get started in gardening during the event at 7 p.m. April 10.

Those attending the program will learn strategies for small spaces and container gardening. White will also provide suggestions for vegetables and companion plants suitable for maximizing gardening space and growing season.
