THREE OAKS — Blues pianist, songwriter and singer Marcia Ball performs at 8 p.m. July 7 at The Acorn, 107 Generations Drive.

The Texas-born, Louisiana-raised Ball is known for her romping Texas boogies, swampy New Orleans ballads and groove-laden Gulf Coast blues.

Born in 1949 to a family whose female members all played piano, Ball moved to Austin, Texas, in 1970 and formed the progressive country band Freda and the Firedogs. She went solo in 1974 and released her first album, “Circuit Queen,” in 1978.

Since then, she’s released 16 more albums, including 1984’s “Soulful Dress”; 1990’s “Dreams Come True,” with Lou Ann Barton and Angela Strehli; 1998’s “Sing It!”, with Tracy Nelson and Irma Thomas; 2001’s “Presumed Innocent”; 2003’s “So Many Rivers”; 2008’s “Peace, Love & BBQ”; 2014’s “The Tattooed Lady & the Alligator Man”; and her latest, 2018’s “Shine Bright.”

Produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, “Shine Bright” contains 12 songs (including nine originals), ranging from the title track’s rousing appeal for public and private acts of courage to the upbeat call to action of “Pots And Pans,” a song inspired by renowned Texas political writer and humorist Molly Ivins, from the humorous advice of “Life of the Party” to the poignantly optimistic “World Full Of Love.”

Tickets are $55-$30.
