  • BMW has confirmed plans to produce a four-door model of its new 8-series called the 8-series Gran Coupe.

  • The leaked photo above shows its graceful styling and sporty proportions.

  • Look for the car's official unveiling June 18 and a worldwide launch sometime in September 2019.

UPDATE 6/13/19: Photos of the 8-series Gran Coupe have leaked, and BMW has confirmed that they are real. Much like we expected, the 8-series' proportions look fantastic stretched into a four-door shape, and it's arguably even more stylish than the coupe and convertible models. We will see more photos and hear more official details about the 8-series Gran Coupe when BMW releases full information on the car June 18.

If you're into the style and grace of BMW's revived 8-series coupe and convertible but need four doors, you're in luck: Today the German automaker confirmed that the 8-series Gran Coupe model will bow later this year and join the 4-series Gran Coupe in the lineup, effectively replacing the 6-series Gran Coupe. BMW provided a moody teaser photo that shows the car's nicely proportioned profile and bright red LED tail lamps, but not much else. We caught the 8-series Gran Coupe testing last year with minimal camo, though, so we basically know what to expect already.

We've had plenty of good things to say about the coupe and convertible models, currently offered only in sporty M850i xDrive trim, which comes with a 523-hp twin-turbocharged V-8 and all-wheel drive. At our test track, the M850i xDrive coupe blasted to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The extra weight of the larger body and rear doors may hold the four-door back slightly, but we still expect brisk acceleration. An M8 Gran Coupe variant will join the lineup, based on this concept car from the 2018 Geneva auto show.

BMW is set to show the 8-series Gran Coupe in Munich at the company's #NextGen event that kicks off on June 25th; the car is expected to go on sale shortly after, in September 2019. Additional details about the car, including powertrain, features, interior space, and more, will become available closer to the car's on sale date, with the price likely to be higher than that of the M850i coupe, which starts at $112,895.
