Earlier today, BMW announced it would be building a production M3 Touring, granting a wish made by enthusiasts across the world for decades. With a twin-turbo straight-six under the hood making at least 480 horsepower, it's set to be one of the coolest cars in BMW's lineup. But, like with most cool European performance wagons, it won't be sold in North America.

A BMW North America spokesperson confirmed to Road & Track via email the company has no plans to import the M3 Touring into the U.S. This makes sense considering it no longer sells the regular 3-Series wagon here, and neither of the car's main competitors—the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Wagon and Audi RS 4 Avant—are sold here. And if you've paid any attention to how few wagons are sold in America, you'll understand why BMW decided not to go through the effort of bringing this one to our shores. Of course, none of this makes the news any less heartbreaking.

So if you were planning to allocate some funds for an M3 wagon in preparation for its 2022 market launch, you're out of luck. If your heart is still set on a fast European wagon, you have some other options, namely the Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S, and the Audi RS 6 Avant—the Volvo being the only car in the M3's estimated price range.
