American Taylor Fritz, last year's BNP Paribas Open men's champion, is back in the quarterfinals at Indian Wells following a 6-4, 6-3 win on Tuesday over Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.

Fritz is aiming to become the first American to repeat as champion at Indian Wells since Michael Chang in 1997.

With American Frances Tiafoe also winning, it marks the first time multiple American men have reached the Indian Wells quarterfinals in the same year since 2008 (James Blake, Mardy Fish).

The win moves Fritz, the fourth-seed at Indian Wells, into a matchup against Jannick Sinner. Fritz, 25, has now won nine consecutive matches at the BNP Paribas Open.

"For sure once you get a couple matches in a row," Fritz said, "for me it just does feel like more comfortable. I feel more confident. I feel like I can play better each match.

"I think it's just getting better and better for me each match. For sure just building the confidence."

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jack Draper: Alcaraz, the top seed in the men's draw, advanced to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year with a win when, after playing for 46 minutes, Draper retired from the match with an injury.

Draper was affected by an abdominal injury that first surfaced in his win against Andy Murray a day earlier. Draper, who was unseeded in the draw, was seen holding the right side of his abdomen before he retired. The injury affected the Brit's serve, which dropped well below 100 mph.

“I would say I returned well, I hit great shots,” said Alcaraz, who is ranked No. 2 in the world but would move up to No. 1 if he wins the title at Indian Wells. "I finished the match with confidence in my shots, to come into the next round with more confidence.”

Alcaraz plays Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won a thrilling late-night three-setter over Tommy Paul.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Alejandro Tabilo: Tiafoe moved into the quarterfinals at Indian Wells following his 6-4, 6-4 win over Tabilo, a qualifier from Chile, on Tuesday inside Stadium 2.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Barbora Krejcikova: Sabalenka, the second seed in the women's draw, moved into the quarterfinals with her 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win Tuesday inside Stadium 2. The Belarusian tennis star has reached the final of three of her last four tournaments prior to Indian Wells, and she won the 2023 Australian Open in January.

Sabalenka, 24, will play American Coco Gauff next.

Cam Norrie vs. Andrey Rublev: Norrie, the 2021 Indian Wells men's champion, is back into the quarterfinals at the BNP Paribas Open following a decisive 6-2, 6-4 win over Rublev, who reached the Indian Wells semifinals last year.

Norrie, who has now reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells for the third consecutive year, will face American Frances Tiafoe, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Alejandro Tabilo of Chile.

Maria Sakkari vs. Karolina Pliskova: Sakkari, a finalist last year at the BNP Paribas Open, advanced to the quarterfinals with her 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win over Pilskova, a former top-ranked player in the world.

Sakkari, the seventh seed in the draw, will play 15th-seeded Petra Kvitova.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Cristian Garin: Two days after upsetting third-seeded Casper Ruud, Garin fell flat against Davidovich Fokina, the 23rd seed. The 6-3, 6-4 win puts the 2021 Roland Garros quarterfinalist into the Indian Wells quarterfinals.

With the loss, Garin just missed out on becoming the first Chilean to reach an Indian Wells quarterfinal since Marcelo Rios in 1998.
