Sometimes one break is all it takes.

Grigor Dimitrov used one break in the first set to sneak past American John Isner on Wednesday afternoon at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Dimitrov, who is seeded No. 33 but moved into the No. 2 slot when Novak Djokovic withdrew, topped Isner 6-3, 7-6(6) to move into the quarterfinals. That's back-to-back great efforts in Indian Wells for Dimitrov, who made the semifinals here in October.

Both players only had one break point chance the entire match. Dimitrov capitalized on his and Isner did not.

Dimitrov will play Andrey Rublev of Russia, a 7-6 (5), 6-4 winner over Hubert Hurkacz. That match will be Friday.

Halep in a flash

Simona Halep, the 2015 BNP Paribas Open champion, needed just 53 minutes to move into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Petra Martic.

Halep, the No. 24 seed, will face the winner of Wednesday's late match between Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek on women's semifinal Friday.

Unseeded Serb into quarterfinals

Miomir Kecmanovic showed no signs of being weary despite having to play an extra match than his seeded counterpart. On Wednesday, he outlasted the No. 6 seed Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals.

Berrettini was the second ranked player knocked out by Kecmanovic. He beat No. 24 seed Marin Cilic in the second round. Kecmanovic will play Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.

Pair of withdrawals

Jannik Sinner, the talented Italian player seeded 10th in Indian Wells, withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open due to an illness, according to the tournament.

Sinner was set to play Nick Kyrgios in the Round of 16 about an hour from when the announcement was made. Kyrgios gets the walkover into the quarterfinals and will face Rafael Nadal on Thursday.

In the women's doubles draw, Marie Bouzkova had to pull out with an ankle injury before her quarterfinal match Wednesday, ending her run with partner Lucie Hradecka. The doubles team of Leylah Fernandez and Alize Cornet got the walkover and move into the semifinals to face Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang.
