Bo Myers helps power Malone University men's basketball team to first win

Bo Myers scored 23 points to help lead the Malone University men's basketball team to a 90-72 win over Wheeling in Wednesday's home opener at Osborne Hall.

The Pioneers rallied from an 11-point first half deficit to earn their first win of the season. Malone improved to 1-2.

Myers' big night extended his hot start to the season. He came in as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's second-leading scorer at 28.5 points a game.

He had plenty of help against Wheeling.

Jaret Majestic hit six 3s and finished with 20 points. His halftime buzzer-beating 3 gave Malone a 43-41 lead.

Bryce Butler scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half. Justin Miller added 12 points and eight assists.

CARNEGIE MELLON 85, WALSH 79 The Tartans outscored the Cavaliers 50-41 in the second half and spoiled Walsh's home opener. Sean Oberman hit three free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the win for Carnegie Mellon. Nick Nakasian hit seven 3s and led the Tartans with 29 points, Oberman added 17, Darryl Straughter hit six 3s and scored a team-high 26 poinrs for the Cavs (1-2). Caleb Canter scored 16 points, Milan Square finished with 14 points and Garrison Keeslar had 11 points and nine assists.

Women's basketball

PITT-GREENSBURG 62, MOUNT UNION 50 Melina Maietta scored 16 points to lead Pitt-Greensburg past the Purple Raiders. Mount Union (1-2) cut a 14-point halftime deficit in half in the third quarter, but a 10-0 run in the fourth helped the Bobcats pull away. Isi Palamone scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Purple Raiders. Katie Clark and Kelsie Glass added nine points apiece.

MALONE 70, WHEELING 38 The Pioneers made it three straight wins to start the season. No details were available.
