Managing your baby’s life can become a lot. From playdates to doctor visits, there’s so much to keep track of and balancing it all is key.

On this week’s episode of In The Know: Milestones, board-certified pediatrician Dr. Kate Rubi shares the products she recommends parents have on hand for caring for their little one’s health at home.

“My holy grail product that parents tell me they love is something called the NoseFrida Snotsucker,” Dr. Rubi says.

Oh yes. It is exactly how it sounds.

“There is a filter in place as a blockage for any sort of gunk that you’re going to get out of there, and this red end goes right in your own mouth, and you’re just going to suck that snot right out of your baby’s nose,” Dr. Rubi explains.

As far as an at-home first-aid kit for your baby, Dr. Rubi recommends a particular type of thermometer. Yes, it’s the one adults don’t particularly favor.

“The reason we like rectal thermometers for babies is that their armpits are very little,” she explains. “When you’re trying to get an accurate temperature, you can’t always do that.”

Lastly, Dr. Rubi explains that when giving babies medicine, you shouldn’t try to mix it with a bottle, as it can change the medicine’s formulation. Instead, she has a neat trick to help your baby consume medicine as is.

“This very cool pacifier has a little medicine channel on the back of it, and it comes with a syringe,” Dr. Rubi explains.

What’s cool about this gadget from Fridababy is that the syringe also has dosage marks on it, so when your baby sucks on the pacifier, you can slip the syringe in the medicine channel.

Overall, Dr. Rubi’s go-to advice for moms is simple: “Healthy babies need healthy moms,” she says. “Sometimes moms forget like ‘I can take a nap, too.'”
