Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The Wake County Board of Education interviewed candidates to fill in the remaining board seat Friday. Former Chairman Keith Sutton left the board to become Superintendent of Warren County Schools. Whoever receives at least 5 votes will fill in the District 4 seat representing part of downtown and East Raleigh as well as parts of eastern Wake County until the November elections. (WRAL)

  2. The man who died after being shot by a Raleigh officer on Interstate-440 has been identified. Daniel Turcios was a husband and father of three and El Pueblo, a Raleigh nonprofit, scheduled a vigil for him last night. (CBS17) Local officers are still waiting for the SBI to finish investigating, but Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman says that the video will tell most of the story amid investigations. (WRAL)

  3. A Raleigh woman was left for dead after a hit-and-run on Sunday. Liz Criner was knocked unconscious by a passing car around 2:30 am on Glenwood Avenue. A Raleigh patrol officer found Criner and took her to the hospital where she is now recovering. Police are looking for a car that is described as a 2015-2017 black or gray Lexus NX-200-H. (WRAL)

  4. A Raleigh man has been arrested and charged after the Wake County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to assist Animal Control. At the home, deputies found a dog that had passed chained to a tree, as well as "what appeared to be another dog's remains" also chained to a tree. Travis Pearce who was in charge of the dogs was charged with felony killing an animal by starvation and misdemeanor cruelty to animals. (WNCT9)

  5. With at-home COVID-19 tests growing in popularity, if you intend to purchase one there are some specifications you will need to know beforehand. OSHA says that in order for a test result to be valid, the specimen must be processed in a laboratory, be a proctored over the counter test, or be done where the collection and processing is observed by an employer. (CBS17) Beginning today, health insurance companies will be required to reimburse people for purchasing at-home tests, but you should check with your insurance company before purchasing to find out if your provider has a preferred vendor. (CBS17)
