Looking for unique clothing that’s also sustainably made? Abi Lierheimer and Ophelia Chen have you covered. Abi and Ophelia are the founders of Bobblehaus (@bobblehaus), a sustainable fashion brand that uses deadstock and recycled fabrics to create colorful, genderless clothing that’s both fashionable and good for the environment.

From the start, sustainability has been at the heart of Bobblehaus’ mission. Long before Bobblehaus was founded, Ophelia knew she wanted to create clothing that didn’t just look good, but was good for the environment as well. When she met Abi, she quickly realized she had found a designer who could make her sustainable fashion dreams come true.

“Back in 2019, I was looking for sustainable products and I was looking for a designer, and we met through mutual friends at that time,” Ophelia tells In The Know.

Together, Abi and Ophelia launched the sustainable fashion start-up that would become Bobblehaus. They decided to make clothing that was not only sustainable, but was fashion-forward, colorful, and genderless. “We dress how we want to feel that day. That’s kind of like our philosophy behind the merchandising,” Ophelia explains.

At first, creating loose-fitting genderless clothing was an uphill battle. “All of my designers are telling me, ‘Make it tighter, make it tighter for women,’” Abi explains. “Why can’t we just make things that we want to wear as well?”

Fortunately, Abi persisted, and Bobblehaus’ clothing line now includes a wide variety of colorful clothing with loose, flowing silhouettes. Many of the brand’s clothing items are made of a silky fabric called TENCEL, which is not only perfect for creating loose-fitting, comfortable clothing, but is also made from recycled materials.

Showing off one of Bobblehaus’ shirts, Abi explains, “I’d like to highlight our signature fabric, which you can tell is very drapey, and from afar it kind of looks silky, but this fabric is actually called TENCEL and it’s made 100% from recycled wood chips.”

Other articles of clothing have a more personal significance for Abi and Ophelia. “We designed the very infamous ramen print during quarantine,” says Abi, holding up a shirt printed with a cup of ramen. “[We were] eating lots of ramen, and also us being Asian Americans, so it holds a deeper meaning for us.”

As Bobblehaus grows as a brand, Abi and Ophelia are determined to keep sustainability at the forefront of everything they do. “For us, we believe that we give what we take,” Ophelia tells In The Know. “So for any item purchased on our website, we donate to plant 10 trees around the world with One Tree Planted, and so far we have planted over 7,000 trees around the world. And we will continue with that initiative in the future as well.”
