Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum starts selling preorders for Trump 'SharpieGate' bobblehead

On Tuesday, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum started selling preorders for a 'SharpieGate' bobblehead to depict the controversy over President Donald Trump and Hurricane Dorian's path in bobblehead form.

The bobblehead is a replica of Trump holding a Hurricane Dorian map apparently altered to show it affecting Alabama.

“We think this bobblehead is the perfect way to commemorate the #SharpieGate saga that has taken so many twists and turns over the past week,” Phil Sklar, Co-Founder and CEO of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a press release. “This feels like one of those iconic moments that people will remember when looking back at Trump’s presidency, and this should be a fun bobblehead for people on both sides of the aisle.”

The president had caused a storm of controversy by doubling down on claims the hurricane could have hit Alabama. On Sept. 1, Trump had first tweeted about a potential Alabama hit, and shortly after the National Weather Service Birmingham office tweeted to say Alabama was not at any risk of a hurricane.

Trump held up the altered map on Sept. 4.

Then, an unsigned statement released by NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, late Sept. 6 disavowed the Sept. 1 tweet by the Birmingham station of the National Weather Service that had sought to correct Trump's claim.

According to media reports on Sept. 7, NOAA planned to hold an investigation into the release of that statement and efforts to bolster Trump.

The bobblehead preorder sells for $25, though the museum says the bobblehead likely won't be available to ship until December 2019. 10% of the proceeds from sales will go to the Humane Society of Grand Bahama.
