"It gives you permission to enjoy the rest of the day and helps you recognise what's missing."

Strictly Come Dancing star Bobby Brazier's touching Christmas Day ritual has been revealed by his dad Jeff Brazier.

It's now 14 years since the death of their beloved Jade Goody, who welcomed Bobby during her and Jeff's two-year relationship in 2003 - as well as a second son named Freddy the year after - and while speaking to The Mirror, the This Morning presenter opened up about an annual family event in memory of her.

"She was the best at Christmas. She went as far as putting out mince pies, festive characters and footprints on the floor," he said of Goody, who passed away from cervical cancer five years after they split.

"It was long before Elf on the Shelf was invented and I'd never seen anyone go to such lengths to make Christmas Day as special as she did."

When Goody died, everything changed for the young lads, with Brazier admitting: "I always wanted it to be a day they enjoyed, like any parent would, but then I quickly realised on the first Christmas that I'd made a mistake hoping we could get through the day without feeling sad or overwhelmed.

"I learned that it wasn't possible for Christmas to be the same anymore."

Putting his stamp on the day while staying respectful of Goody's unrivalled magic, the TV star began introducing fun activities to their Christmas.

"We would release balloons or do something special - and that's actually where our swimming in the sea tradition comes from. We would often go to a beach and just reflect," explained Brazier.

"When you make the morning about mum, it gives you permission to enjoy the rest of the day and helps you recognise what's missing."

This Christmas will be no different, either, with Brazier and his sons set to cruise off in the family campervan in search of soothing waters.

"We have a tradition of travelling in the campervan to a beautiful coastline and going for a dip in the morning. We'll find somewhere really pretty near wherever we are to have our Christmas dinner," he confirmed.

"We're all looking forward to heading off on Christmas Eve."
