Bobcat spotted in Baldwin Borough

At about 9:15 a.m., Channel 11 spotted a bobcat while working on a story.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says that it is extremely rare to see a bobcat.

The animal was seen along Route 51 behind Caring Castle Childcare.

“This is crazy because it is so busy over here,” said Vanessa Murray, a nearby resident. “Wouldn’t ever expect it to be hanging out by a day care.”

Baldwin Borough Police looked at the video and confirmed that it was a bobcat.

Debbie Donaldson, the owner of the day care, says that the bobcat’s presence near her business creates some uneasiness.

“Yes, lots of concerns because we have, yes any given day 40 children at this day care and on the playground at least twice a day there’s 15-20 children max,” said Donaldson.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says that bobcats are shy, elusive and nocturnal. They typically avoid people and are strict carnivores. They usually eat small animals such as mice, squirrels, chipmunks, birds and rabbits.

“It’s wildlife and almost near the city of Pittsburgh. Kind of bizarre,” said Donaldson.
