BOCA RATON — A 43-year-old Boca Raton man riding a motor scooter was killed, and his passenger seriously injured, in a two-vehicle collison Thursday afternoon, police said Friday.

Didier Hurtado Estrada was riding his 2020 YNGF RevolutionX east on the right shoulder of West Palmetto Park Road, west of U.S. 441, shortly after noon Thursday. He was improperly passing cars traveling in the right lane, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

William Keck, 73, also of Boca Raton, was traveling east on the same road when he slowed his 2012 Nissan Sentra to turn into Veteran's Memorial Park. But as Keck turned, Hurtado Estrada entered his path from the shoulder, and the right front fender of Keck's Nissan collided with the left side of Hurtado Estrada's scooter, deputies said.

After the collision, Hurtado Estrada and Lian Cardenas-Cedeno, 22, of Boca Raton, who was riding with him, were ejected from the vehicle and landed in the southeast corner of the intersection. The scooter was redirected onto the sidewalk, where it came to a stop.

Hurtado Estrada was taken to Delray Medical Center by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue with life-threatening injuries. Cardenas-Cedeno also was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Hurtado Estrada later died at the hospital, deputies said. Keck was not injured.
