A Jeep struck and killed an 83-year-old Boca Raton man who was crossing Federal Highway on Monday night, police said.

The man, Peter Posner, was walking across Federal Highway near Royal Palm Plaza against a “do not walk” signal Monday night when the 2011 Jeep, driven by a 25-year-old man, struck him, according to Boca Raton police.

Posner was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Boca Raton Police.

Federal Highway was closed in both directions for about three hours Monday night. The investigation is continuing. Speeding didn’t appear to be a factor, police said.
