Bockfest, a new German beer festival in West Bend to celebrate spring is this Saturday

On Saturday, March 2, West Bend will be going all out to celebrate spring.

And with the temperatures predicted to be close to 60 on Saturday, West Bend will be hosting its first-ever Bockfest, a German beer festival with bock beer as well as other beer and drink options, food and live music.

However, tickets will not be sold at the door. They need to be purchased online from Wednesday through Friday, confirmed Jay Shambeau, the city administrator.Bockfest will also include outdoor games, fire pits and costume contests.

"We are excited about the first event, and it will be an annual event," said Shambeau.

What is bock beer?

Bock beer, a German beer that was first brewed in Einbeck, Germany, will be the signature beer for the festival. Most styles of bock beer are the color of amber, but some are black or red depending on where the beer was brewed.

What bands are playing at Bockfest?

From 11 a.m. to noon, River City Blaskapelle, a German band from West Bend will kick off the day. From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., polka band Polka Fusion will take the stage. The Squeezettes, a five-piece band that plays polka music, is slated to perform from 2 to 3 p.m.

The day will conclude with Bockfest's headliner band, the Alex Meixner Band, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. with a fusion of jazz and pop with polka music.

Bockfest will be held at Regner Park, 800 N. Main St., West Bend.

Food will include pretzels, brats, sausages and traditional German food. Besides bock beer, there will be other kinds of beer and nonalcoholic drinks.
