BoCoPreps 10 & 10: Week 4

Jan. 16—Each full week of the winter season, BoCoPreps will highlight 10 teams and 10 athletes that had exceptional performances. While our staff will utilize multiple avenues to compile these lists, readers are encouraged to submit nominations to our email (results@bocopreps.com).

10 teams

Fairview girls swimming: The Knights won the Boulder County Invitational for the 35th year in a row Saturday, topping second-place Broomfield by nearly 400 points. They won nine of 12 events, including all three relays.

Frederick boys basketball: The Golden Eagles have scored 80 or more points in six consecutive games and are 11-0. They beat Riverdale Ridge, Niwot and Northridge, all by at least 25, last week.

Holy Family girls basketball: The Tigers held Greeley Central to 29 points, then 5A No. 2 Centaurus to 35 in wins last week. Fiona Snashall combined for 34 points, 27 rebounds, 11 steals and nine blocks in those wins.

Legacy girls swimming: The Lightning beat Broomfield in a dual, their second straight of the season. They won eight of 12 events and all three relays. Isabella Forsman won the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.

Legacy wrestling: The Lightning won the 48th running of the Alameda Wrestling Tournament. Out of 14 teams, Jaxson Joiner (106-pound weight class), Matthew Clifton (113s), Brennon Joiner (132s), Konnor Large (157s), Ryan Bynarowicz (175s) and Quinn Funk (190s) all won gold.

Longmont boys basketball: After falling to Mead in its league opener, the Trojans beat Windsor and Greeley Central last week. Kaden Rose had 12 points in each, shooting a combined 8 for 10 from the field and a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line.

Mead boys basketball: Donovan Weese had 21 points and the Mavericks scored 62 points in the opening half to beat Greeley West 95-40 Wednesday. Tucker Mills had 26 in a 55-46 win over Silver Creek Friday.

Mead girls basketball: The Mavericks outscored their two opponents last week by 102 points, beating Greeley West and Silver Creek.

Monarch ice hockey: The Coyotes recovered from a two- and three-goal deficit to draw with Ralston Valley Friday night. They got two goals from Benjamin Wiener and three assists from Vincent Felt.

Peak to Peak girls basketball: Alexandra Eschmeyer combined for 51 points, 23 rebounds and nine blocks and the Pumas beat Kent Denver and St. Mary's Academy to push their win streak to four games.

10 athletes

Tyler Carlson, Monarch boys basketball: Carlson scored 25 points on 91% shooting in an 81-67 win over Poudre Friday. He was 10 for 11 and 3 for 4 from 3-point range.

Joey Cook, Broomfield boys basketball: Cook combined for 25 points in two games for the Eagles last week. He went 8 of 13 for 16 points in a win over Horizon.

Brandon Domsch, Legacy boys basketball: Domsch's rim-rattling dunk and infectious energy led Legacy to a bounce-back win over Monarch last week. The Coyotes went on to beat Loveland as well.

Ellianne Effland, Broomfield girls swimming: Effland helped the Eagles to a second-place finish at the Boulder County Invite, winning the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.

Ryder Evans, Niwot wrestling: The sophomore improved to 20-4 on the year, beating Legacy's Landon Hetrick in the 126-pound finals at the Alameda Wrestling Tournament.

Laura Gensert, Centaurus girls basketball: Gensert joined the 1,000-point club last week. She has 1,015 headed into this week.

Amelia Mason, Fairview girls swimming: Mason set a pool record in the 100 butterfly at the Broomfield Community Center for the Boulder County Invite, finishing in 54.76 seconds. She also won the 100 backstroke in 57.33.

Max Vacco, Prospect Ridge Academy boys basketball: The senior scored 45 points across a pair of wins last week. Against Liberty Common Thursday, he shot 13 of 20 for 28 points. He also had 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals.

Caroline Walley, Monarch girls basketball: The senior is sizzling from the field. She went 4 for 4 against Legacy and 5 for 8 against Poudre, totaling 22 points last week.

Virginia Walsh, Centaurus girls swimming: Walsh won the 50 freestyle at the Boulder County Invite in 25.12 seconds.
