BoCoPreps 10&10: Week 6

Jan. 30—Each full week of the winter season, BoCoPreps will highlight 10 teams and 10 athletes that had exceptional performances. While our staff will utilize multiple avenues to compile these lists, readers are encouraged to submit nominations to our email (results@bocopreps.com).

10 teams

Broomfield boys basketball: The Eagles went 2-1 over the week, with league wins over Rocky Mountain and Northglenn. In an overtime win over the Lobos, sophomore Joey Cook served up 24 points on 11 of 15 shooting.

Centaurus girls basketball: After a small two-game slide, the Warriors are back on a three-game win streak having beaten Greeley Central, Longmont and Greeley West all last week.

Holy Family wrestling: The Tigers rolled to a 4-1 duals record at Discovery Canyon, scoring 63, 60, 54, and 41 team points in their wins.

Legacy boys basketball: The Lightning went 2-0 last week, averaging 55 points in wins against Boulder and Brighton. Against the Panthers, Bryce Spradling scored 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting; LHS led by Brandon Domsch with 15 points against the Bulldogs.

Lyons girls basketball: The Lions tore it up for three straight days early last week, defeating three opponents by an average of 35 points per game.

Mead boys wrestling: The Mavericks boys placed third at the Duff Seaney Invite at Canon City, scoring 143 points. Highlights included Dalton Berg's first place at 175s and second place finishes from Gage Duetsch (120s), Jake Glade (144s) and Leister Bowling (157s).

Mead girls wrestling: The Mavericks finished 11th out of 57 teams at the competitive Chatfield Girls War Horse Invitational, scoring 57 points. They had three top-four placers in Erin Young (4th, 120s), Ashley Booth (2nd, 140s) and Kirsten Davis (3rd, 145s).

Monarch girls basketball: The Coyotes continue to be one of the hottest teams in Colorado, now with a nine-game win streak after a 2-0 week in which they won by 21 and 29 points.

Skyline wrestling: The Falcons finished a close second behind Mullen at the Bear Creek Invitational, with eight wrestlers placing third or better. Winners included Tobias Pinson (132s), Landon Troupe (157s) and Rene Perez (285s).

Silver Creek boys basketball: The Raptors went 2-1 against some super tough opponents, gritting out a 64-60 win over Holy Family to wrap up the week. In that one, junior Gabe Selby broke out with a season best 17 points.

10 athletes

Grant Boonstra, Peak to Peak boys basketball: Boonstra had five points and nine rebounds in a win against Prospect Ridge, and then busted out for a season high 22 points against Jefferson Academy just a couple days later.

Kieran Carter, Silver Creek wrestling: Went 4-1 at the Westminster Invitational to notch third place, including winning the third place match by fall over Platte Canyon's Kolton Brown in 4:24.

Quinn Funk, Legacy wrestling: The junior secured four wins by pinfall at the Front Range League championships, winning the bracket with a pin of Fossil Ridge's Andrew Herrmann in just 25 seconds.

Jerek Funkhouser, Niwot boys basketball: Despite a pair of losses for NHS, Funkhouser was working his tail off. He scored 22 and 25 points against Roosevelt and Riverdale Ridge, respectively, while shooting 45% from the floor in both games.

Casey Hageman, Erie wrestling: The sophomore scored a Front Range League championship at 144 pounds on Saturday evening, defeating Fort Collins' Sorin Sierra by a 9-3 decision. He's now 25-5 on the season.

Lauren Kramer, Centaurus girls basketball: The sharpshooter for the Warriors nailed six 3-pointers — certainly a respectable number for an entire game — in just the first half of their victory against Greeley West last week. The senior went 6 for 12 for the contest.

Monarch 200 medley relay team: The team of Gwyneth Christensen, Audrey Shambo, Mia Prater and Eliza Lennox moved up to 11th in the state with a time of 1:50.28 against Centaurus last week.

Myles Moskowitz, Fairview boys basketball: The senior had an efficient couple of games last week, totaling 28 and 15 points while going a combined 16 of 27 from the floor. The Knights went 1-1.

Savannah Pohl, Longmont girls basketball: The junior scored at least 17 points in three games last week, going 19 for 28 at the free throw line along with her regular in-game work.

Fiona Snashall, Holy Family girls basketball: The senior had a nice couple of games against Windsor and Silver Creek, going 14 of 21 from the floor combined for 31 total points.
