Bodega Denver to open a second location in RiNo

DENVER (KDVR) — A popular sandwich shop, Bodega Denver, announced that it is opening up a second location in Five Points.

The first shop opened on West 38th Avenue and many online reviewers commented on how there were lines out the door for breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

The second location is set to be in Novel RiNo, located inside an apartment community in Denver’s River North Art District. When the shop opens up in the fall, it will be neighbors with Corvus Coffee Roasters.

Also expected to join the apartment community are two restaurants with highly recognized chefs.

James Beard finalist and one of Food & Wine’s best new chefs, Chef Carlo Lamagna, plans to open Magna Kainan in the apartment building, which is set to serve classic Filipino cuisine.

Meanwhile, another spot is planning to open up on the rooftop of the building in the fall of 2024. It’s going to be a cocktail bar, led by the current bar director of Forget Me Not.

Some reviews on Yelp from the 38th Avenue location:

“Such a great spot! I ordered the boujee breakfast sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by all of the flavor that was in this! The focaccia was delicious and had such great butter/herbs on top,” said Katie N. “I was nervous with a long line but this place has their processes down! We were ordering in no time and they even had a server walking through taking beverage orders before you order food. Can’t wait to be back.”

“The menu is pretty impressive. I went in here ready to get the burger (that was just ranked top 10 in the city), but they had a special, and I caved. Great choice, and I will grab the burger next time. So, the special was the Hungover Joe, and it was magnificent. The pasta salad is some of the best stuff I have ever had. Truly. Wife got the Philly chopped cheese and loved it. They have IPA’s in house, ALWAYS great music, and know there is a parking lot in the back if street parking is full. The Kool Aid marg is a great introduction for newbies. True teamwork with the staff, and the efficiency is seamless. Love this place. Definitely recommend and see you there,” said Mark F.

It’s not all glowing praise though. Several reviews mentioned that the existing location can be loud, and one reviewer said her food didn’t meet expectations.

“After driving past this place for weeks, I was extremely excited to go check it out. I’m sad to say, I’m pretty unimpressed. While the aesthetic is nice and everyone was friendly, the food left me wanting more. I got a basic breakfast sandwich and the bread was smushed, the sandwich was super dry, and the egg was over cooked. I feel like some sort of sauce or aïoli could really help the situation. The coffee was eh. The fries were my favorite part, loved the fact that they were a mixed assortment. Sadly, I don’t foresee myself returning,” said Kristi M.
