Body of Corning downing victim found in river

Oct. 2—The body of a Corning man who drowned in the Sacramento River on Sept. 15 has been recovered, according to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office.

Tehama County Undersheriff Jeff Garrett said Tad Gene Harris, 54, was swimming in the river when he reportedly went under around 3 p.m., and never resurfaced.

"His body was located and removed from the river about 100 yards away from where he was last scene," he added.

On the day of the drowning emergency first responders arrived to conduct a search for Harris, including a California Highway Patrol helicopter, Tehama County Sheriff's Boating Patrol and Tehama County Fire Department/CalFire.

The search went until dark and started again the next day, however, a body was not located during the organized search, Garrett said.

"We are grateful to have recovered the body," he added. "Especially for the sake of his friends and family."
