Body discovered inside Bryant home ravaged by fire, authorities investigate cause of blaze

Apr. 30—Bryant — A body was discovered inside of a home that was ravaged by a fire Thursday near Bryant, South Dakota.

According to the Hamiln County Sheriff's Office, first responders discovered the body inside the home, located about 6 miles west of Bryant, shortly after extinguishing the structure fire on Thursday evening.

Firefighters from multiple surrounding towns, including Lake Norden, Bryant and Hayti, battled the blaze for several hours early in the evening. The Hamlin County Sheriff's Office says the roof of the home was caved in from the fire and was "fully engulfed" in flames at one point.

After extinguishing the blaze, it was deemed safe for crews to walk inside of the home to survey the interior. During the walk through of the home, first responders discovered a body.

The identity of the body has not been revealed at this time, as authorities continue investigating the structure fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by officials with the South Dakota Fire Marshal's Office.
