Body found in Delaware River in Solebury ID'd as missing Northampton County man

The body found in the Delaware River in Solebury on Sunday has been identified as a Northampton County man who was reported missing from Allentown late last year.

Solebury police said in a news release that the body was that of Hellertown resident Adam Zimpfer, 40, who was last seen in December.

A passerby found the body on rocks in the river just north of Route 263 about 10:15 a.m. Sunday. He was found on a rock landform on the river between the towpath and Hendrick Island.

New Hope Eagle and Point Pleasant fire companies assisted Solebury police and the Bucks County Coroner's Office retrieve the body.

Using identifiable information on his clothing, Solebury police conducted a records check and learned of a possible missing person report from Allentown in Lehigh County.

DNA samples from the body were collected for testing and used as a comparison with possible biological family members. Using Bensalem's rapid DNA testing instrument, investigators were able to identify Zempler.

His cause of death has not yet been determined, however police said there was no sign of foul play.

Allentown police said Zimpfer was last seen about 1 p.m. Dec. 26. His family lost contact with him a day later.

This was the second time a body has been found near the Delaware River in Bucks County in less than a month.

A boater found a body of a man on the westward shore of the tidal pool between the Delaware River and Biles Creek on March 21. Investigators identified that body as a 24-year-old New Jersey man who had been seen jumping from the Trenton Makes bridge on Jan. 27.
