Body found in far East El Paso desert identified as that of Guatemalan woman

The body found recently near the intersection of Mission Ridge Boulevard and Bob Hope Drive has been identified as that of a Guatemalan woman.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday that the body of Delmy Odilia Timal Urtado, 42, was found Oct. 19 in the far East Side area after a call was received at 9:21 a.m. about a body in the desert area.

Deputies were dispatched to the 12900 block of Bob Hope Drive on a welfare check and located the woman’s body at 9:26 a.m. about 100 yards into the desert area.

Identification and next of kin notifications were made possible by collaborative efforts between the El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Guatemalan Consulate in Del Rio and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, a news release said.

Officials said the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are suspicious and the case is being investigated as a homicide by the Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing, the news release said, and no other information was released.
