Body found in Saint Jones River by kayakers over July 4th weekend, Dover police say

A group of people kayaking in the Saint Jones River saw a body on the shoreline and called the police on Saturday, according to the Dover Police Department.

The police responded to the area behind the Capital Green neighborhood, and the Dover Fire Department helped remove the body from the water. Police identified the victim as a man, but said they could release no additional details due to the "advanced state of decomposition."

While police reported that they saw no obvious signs of trauma on the scene, the cause of death is unknown.

Identification of the victim and cause of death are both pending further examination by the medical examiner's office, police said.
