Body of Jay County man recovered from flood waters

PORTLAND, Ind. — The body of a Jay County man was recovered this week from flood waters in southern Adams County.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the body of 55-year-old Anthony Wayne Gors, most recently of Bryant, was found about 11 a.m. Monday near the Wabash River.

Emergency responders had been called to the area — about 14 miles north of Portland, near Adams County Road 300-W north of County Road 850-S — about 5:45 a.m., and found an unoccupied Chevrolet Express van in the flood waters.

Investigators said the van had driven around "a swing gate with signs stating the road was closed due to high water."

The body was found a short distance from the van.

Gors was a graduate of Randolph Southern High School and worked at Pioneer Packaging in Portland.

He had also lived in Losantville, Lynn, Richmond and Winchester.

Funeral services are set for 7 p.m. Monday at Williamson, Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.
