The body of a missing, blind Owen County man was recovered Thursday from a pond not far from the camper where he had been living in Patricksburg.

Authorities said there no suspicion of foul play in the death of 41-year-old Chris Callas. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday in Terre Haute to determine the cause of death.

His mother, Violet Reno, reported him missing a week after she had dropped him off at the camper. She said he was recovering from surgery to repair a detached retina in one eye and had no vision in the other.

Reno got worried when she couldn't contact him by phone and found out he wasn't at his residence, which was on property near Patricksburg Elementary School. She feared the worst, since they never went more than a day or two without speaking or a visit.

Volunteers and a search dog scoured the area during searches earlier this month.

Police got a call Thursday from someone reporting a body in a residential pond located on Chambers Street. The body of water was less than half a football field's distance from Callas's camper.

Owen County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Patricksburg Fire Department, state conservation officers and the county coroner responded, according to a news release from the sheriff.
