Body of missing hiker found in Connecticut River

Sep. 9—HANOVER — The body of a missing man was pulled from the Connecticut River Thursday, authorities said.

The death of the Prentiss, Mississippi, man is being called "a possible drowning" by authorities.

The death isn't considered suspicious, according to the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol.

Police in Norwich, Vermont, around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday received a call of a missing hiker who had been staying at a hostel near Route 5 and the Connecticut River. The hiker had been last seen about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and authorities determined he was last seen headed toward the Connecticut River on the Vermont side.

On Thursday afternoon, a search of the river by the Hanover Fire Department and New Hampshire Fish and Game Department located the hiker in the water.

He was pronounced deceased on scene.
