Body of missing Mass. hiker, Emily Sotelo, found

Nov. 23—A search and rescue team located the body of a missing Massachusetts hiker on what would have been her 20th birthday after a search that spanned more than four days, New Hampshire Fish and Game said.

The body of Emily Sotelo was found just after 11 a.m. on the northwest side of Mount Lafayette, in Franconia. She had departed on a solo hike early Sunday morning.

Rescuers worked Sunday night into Monday morning after Sotelo did not show up at a rendezvous.

On Tuesday afternoon, tracks and items belonging to Emily were located at the headwaters of Lafayette Brook, according to a news release.

Sotelo's body was flown by a National Guard helicopter to Cannon Mountain Ski Area.

Also assisting in the recovery were Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team, Mountain Rescue Service, Lakes Region Search and Rescue, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, New England K-9, N.H. Army National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and the White Mountain National Forest. Fish and Game also thanked AT&T First Net and N.H. Emergency Management.
