The body of missing Swansea man found in car in retention pond at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital

The body and vehicle of a missing Swansea man were found Monday by a volunteer search group in a retention pond at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon police announced Tuesday.

David Foster, 50, was last seen leaving his workplace on Jan. 13 in Belleville.

“We do not suspect any foul play as it was previously reported Mr. Foster may have been suffering from some type of medical emergency and was reported to be (en) route to the hospital the day he went missing,” police said in a news release.

Brother’s Underwater Recovery, which searches for missing people near waterways, used a drone to fly over the pond and spotted what appeared to be a vehicle, police said.

“The volunteer group, with the permission from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the O’Fallon Police Department dove the lake and verified the vehicle was occupied and belonged to David Foster. They immediately withdrew and the scene was secured,” the news release stated.

The Swansea Police Department and the Swansea Fire Department dive team were called to assist with the recovery of the vehicle, which was located about 30 feet from the shore and authorities confirmed the vehicle was occupied by Foster.
