Body found in Coopersville storm sewer positively identified as Erik Johnson

COOPERSVILLE — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday afternoon a deceased body discovered in a storm sewer in Coopersville on Wednesday has been positively identified as Erik Johnson, 28, missing since Aug. 13.

The body was found in a storm sewer in a construction area near Center Street and Sunset Street on Wednesday morning. It was reported to OCSO after construction workers saw it in a drainpipe. The body was visible from a manhole, but not immediately accessible.

Members of the Ottawa County Technical Rescue Team and Coopersville Department of Public Works worked to recover the body.

A cause of death was not immediately determined, pending the outcome of toxicology testing. However, the incident is not believed to be criminal at this time.
