Body recovered from Genesee River following possible drowning incident

Irondequoit police say a body has been recovered from the Genesee River after a potential drowning incident prompted an investigation earlier today.

Police responded to 40 Marina Drive around 10 a.m. after it was reported an individual had been missing since approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Upon reaching the location where the individual's boat was docked, family members discovered all of his personal belongings still present and his sandals floating in the water, police said.

The Rochester Police Department Scuba Team and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit arrived to provide assistance.

At approximately 1 p.m., the RPD Scuba Team located a body near the area where the floating sandals were found, police said.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office has been called to the scene to identify the body and determine the cause of death.

Authorities said foul play is not suspected.

The investigation is ongoing.
