Body in submerged car positively identified as missing woman Erica Bergeron

A body recovered from a car that crashed into a retention pond at Palm Harbor Parkway and Cris Lane has been confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office as Erica Bergeron, 49, who had been previously reported missing.

Law enforcement pulled a 2021 gray Toyota Camry out of a pond in Palm Coast on Monday afternoon.

Bergeron was last seen on Thursday at Palm Coast Lanes, 11 N. Old Kings Road, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. She was in a gray 2021 Toyota Camry, which is a rental vehicle that Bergeron was driving.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported "for reasons unknown" the car veered off the roadway. It then struck a tree and went into a nearby retention pond. It was recovered by the county dive team and was occupied by a white female driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Exactly when the crash occurred is pending further investigation, according to FHP's report.
