Body of Sycamore grad recovered at Indiana lake
The bodies of Sycamore graduate and Indiana University student Aryan Vaidya and his classmate were recovered Tuesday morning at an Indiana lake, officials said.
Aryan Vaidya, 20, and Siddhant Shah, 19, were reported missing Saturday afternoon while swimming at Monroe Lake, about 15 miles south of IU's Bloomington campus.
After three days of searching, Indiana Conservation Officers reported they had located and recovered their bodies just after 11 a.m. in 18 feet of water in an area east of the Paynetown Marina.
Shah and Vaidya were boating on a pontoon Saturday when their group anchored to swim. Both men did not resurface and friends attempted to help them but were unsuccessful, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported.
Sycamore Schools issued a statement Sunday regarding Vaidya.
"As you may have heard, search and rescue teams in Indiana are working to find 2021 Sycamore High School graduate Aryan Vaidya. Vaidya and another Indiana University student," the statement said. "The entire Sycamore family is saddened by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Vaidya’s family."
