Bodycam footage shows Tucson police officer shoot, kill armed man

Video footage depicting a fatal Tucson police shooting involving the department's SWAT team in July was released on Tuesday.

On July 12, Tucson police responded to the area of Golf Links and Kolb roads to reports of a home invasion shortly before 1 p.m.

Police shared 911 audio of a woman who said her home's video surveillance system had alerted to her to an intruder in her home while she was at work.

Police say the man, later identified as 32-year-old Daniel Sheehan, left the area before officers arrived.

The next day, investigators uncovered that Sheehan was at a home near 32nd Street and Fremont Avenue where the department's SWAT team attempted to negotiate with him. Officials say the man exited the home on several occasions to briefly speak with police, with footage from a robot showing an agitated Sheehan telling police that he was stable.

Video from a SWAT robot shows Sheehan walking back and forth through a doorway holding a handgun and his phone as he speaks with negotiators.

"I'm not doing that bro," Sheehan can be heard saying to the negotiator. "Dude, I've been doing something for you. I've been doing something for you bro. I'm talking to you."

A little after 3 a.m., officials say Sheehan stood at a window and pointed a handgun at the officers after several hours of negotiations.

Video from the robot appears to show Sheehan pointing the handgun out the window and and saying "I'm going to start shooting" before gunshots are heard.

An officer shot at Sheehan with a rifle, killing him. Police say a victim of the home invasion was inside the residence and treated for minor injuries. Officials did not specify whether Sheehan had kidnapped them.

The officer who killed Sheehan has been identified as Officer Chad Barker, a 9-year veteran with the Tucson Police Department.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team will investigate the legality of the shooting and submit its findings to the Pima County Attorney's Office as protocol.
