Did you stop following the news about Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert last Friday? If so, first of all, congratulations on being some sort of mindfulness genius—hope you enjoyed your weekend of hiking and reading poetry. Second, here’s the latest:

Back in Washington, Boebert and the other hard-right members of the House Freedom Caucus will be playing an important role in this week’s negotiations over whether to continue funding the operations of government. The latest news there is that the Freedom Caucus reached an agreement with the GOP’s moderate “Main Street Caucus” on a bill that would fund the government through Oct. 31 … but that it may not even garner enough support to pass the Republican-held House, much less the Democrat-held Senate because it includes 8 percent cuts to spending and would cut off military aid to Ukraine.

Other MAGA House Republicans, meanwhile, are insisting that funding be tied to the termination of Jack Smith’s special counsel prosecution of Donald Trump. Sounds like it’s gonna be a long week! The kind of stressful environment, in other words, that can make a member of Congress want to take the edge off with a few hits from the vape pen and a quick— [looks at editor] ha-ha, actually, let’s go in another direction here … Have you ever wondered why you never come across the verb garner except in articles about politics? You never hear anyone say they’re going to be garnering milk and eggs at the grocery store, am I right? OK, have a nice Monday!
