This is the extraordinary moment a huge Boeing plane got stuck underneath a bridge while being driven on the motorway.

Footage from the Gurugram-Delhi highway in north India shows the nose of the aircraft and half of its body under the iron footbridge – with the rest of the plane firmly lodged near the wing area towards the back of the plane.

A trailer had been driving the unused Air India plane at 1.15am on Sunday morning to its new owner but it became lodged below the bridge halfway through the journey.

Traffic is seen continuing to flow along the busy motorway as the driver waited for emergency crews to attend the scene.

A spokesman for Air India said: "Air India has got no connection whatsoever with the aircraft under any circumstances.

"It's is a scrapped aircraft of Air India which has been sold off. This was transported last night by the party."

A spokesman for nearby Delhi airport said: "The aircraft certainly does not belong to the Delhi airport.

“It appears to be a scrapped plane and the driver may have may have made an error, while transporting it."

In 2019 a truck carrying an abandoned India Post aircraft also got stuck under a bridge in West Bengal's Durgapur after the driver misjudged the height of the structure.
