Boiling inferno spotted in Gulf of Mexico after undersea gas line ruptures

·1 min read

Striking video shows flames and boiling water rising to the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, where an undersea gas line ruptured on Friday.

Petróleos Mexicanos, Mexico’s state-owned oil company also known as Pemex, said in a statement that security protocols were immediately implemented, and firefighting vessels were dispatched to the scene.

The gas leak, which erupted roughly 150 meters from a platform, was contained after about five hours, the company said.

No one was injured, Pemex's statement added.
